11.9 "Ĉu ili ankoraŭ serĉas la revoluciulojn?" demandis Onklo Pan denove.
"Ne,ili foriris tuj post mortigo de la Politika Direktanto--mi ne scias,kien ili foriris. Ĉiuokaze,la urbeto estas jam malplena. Se paroli pri la Komisaroj,mi rememoras ion,Onklo Pan. Vi devas helpi min. Mi ne deziras porti denove tiun ĉi teruran revolucian uniformon. Mi ne deziras esti sekretario de iu ajn politika direktanto,eĉ se mi devos malsatmorti."
Kaj li stariĝis. Ni ekrimarkis,ke li aspektas vere strange en la uniformo el griza nankeno. Li forrazis sian respektindan longan barbon,kiam li sekretariiĝis.
Sed li aspektis tute ne juna,kun sia razita sulkokovrita mentono,ankaŭ ne neta,en la knabeca uniformo de la nova dinastio. Male,li estis kompatinda figuro,komikeca kaj groteska. Ŝajnis,ke ankaŭ li mem nun rimarkis tiun econ,ĉar li emfaze kaj celkonscie forŝiris la jakon kaj ĵetis ĝin sur la teron kiel ĉifonon kaj diris al ĝi,"For! Mi ne plu deziras vin!" Poste li levis siajn okulojn kaj rigardis al Onklo Pan,dirante petege,"Mia kara olda amiko,donu al mi longan robon,mi petas! Mi mezuriĝas preskaŭ same kiel vi."

"No,they left as soon as they killed the Political Organiser--I don't know where they have left for. Anyway,the town is now empty. By the way,talking of the Commissars,I remember something,Uncle Pan. But he did not look in the least young,with his bare,wrinkled chin,nor smart,in the boyish uniform of the new dynasty. On the contrary,he made a pathetic figure of comicality and grotesqueness. He himself seemed to have also perceived this quality now,for he tore off the jacket with vehemence and determination,and threw it on the ground like a rag and said to it,"Get away with you! I don't want you any more!" Then he lifted his eyes and looked at Uncle Pan,saying imploringly,"My dear old friend,give me a long gown,please! My size is almost the same as yours."
