Kaj li eniris sian ĉambron. Post momento li revenis kun la vestaĵo. Onklo Pejfu tuj surmetis ĝin. Ĝi adaptiĝis al li tre bone. Li rigardis antaŭe kaj malantaŭe kaj ŝajnis kontenta pri ĝi. Poste li malŝarĝiĝe suspiris,kvazaŭ li finfine liberiĝus de koŝmaro,kaj fariĝis denove instruisto.
"Ĉu vi supozas,ke Ĉu Min permesos al mi instruistiĝi denove,kiam li regajnos la potencon? Vidu,mi devas perlabori miajn vivrimedojn,revolucio aŭ ne revolucio."
"Mi ne scias," Onklo Pan respondis.
"Eble jes,se mi ĝustatempe rekreskigos mian barbon. Mi certas,ke li ne trovos instruiston pli malmultekostan ol mi. Mi provos redukti iom la kotizon,se li insistos..."
Onklo Pan rigore silentadis,ĉar li sciis nenion pri edukado.
Posttagmeze,kiam ordo estis restarigita en la urbeto per la alveno de novaj revoluciaj gardistoj el la gubernia urbo,Pejfu reiris hejmen. En la momento de la foriro,li rememorigis al Onklo Pan, "Volu atenti pri bela betulvergo por mi,Onklo Pan. Mi eble bezonos ĝin baldaŭ."
"Nu,mi provos," Onklo Pan diris,rigardante konfuzite la malfortan figuron de la maljuna instruisto,malaperanta tra la vespera krepuskiĝo.

"I can't find you a birch twig just now," Uncle Pan answered. "But I'll get you a long gown first,if you have really made up your mind to go back to teaching again. It is my New Year dress. I hope you find it respectable."
And he went into his room. In a moment he returned with the garment. Uncle Peifu put it on instantly. It fitted him very well. He looked back and forward,and seemed to be satisfied with it. Then he let out a long sigh of relief as though he were at last freed from a nightmare,and became a schoolmaster again.
"Do you think Chumin will let me be a teacher again when he comes back to power? You see,I must earn a living,revolution or no revolution."
"I don't know," Uncle Pan answered.
Perhaps he will,if I grow my old beard in time. I am sure he can't find a cheaper teacher than me. I'll try to reduce the fees a little,if he insists..."
Uncle Pan maintained strict silence,for he knew nothing about education.
In the afternoon when order in the town was restored with the arrival of fresh revolutionary guards from the County City,Uncle Peifu went back home. At the moment of departure he reminded Uncle Pan again, "Do look out for a nice birch twig for me,Uncle Pan. I may need it at any time."
"Well,I'll try," Uncle Pan said,gazing with great confusion at the old school teacher's shaky figure vanishing into the falling dusk.
